As many of you know, on Friday night I took to Instagram asking for donations for the Hurricane Maria victims in Puerto Rico. I have family members who live there, and after hearing about the devastation I felt compelled to help. My goal was to be able to overwhelm the local donation drop off with generosity, and thanks to about 20 people my family and I were able to do just that.
With nearly $500 of donations in hand, yesterday we hit up Costco to buy 25 cases of water, 50 flashlights, countless batteries, wipes, diapers, and more! We dropped everything off yesterday afternoon and were greeted by volunteers who were so beyond grateful. I give all of the credit and appreciation to those who donated because without them none of this could have happened.
But wait, there’s more…
When we dropped off the supplies, I took the picture above to prove to those who donated that their money was well spent. I snapped a few others, then I added them to my personal Facebook page to credit the volunteers, donors, etc. My husband did the same, and we actually ended up pulling in MORE DONATIONS! As I type this I currently have an ADDITIONAL $600 in cash donations to spend on supplies!!! You guys. I’m seriously so speechless, and that NEVER happens, haha!! This is the BEST MONDAY EVER!!!
You all have no idea how much this means to me, but especially to my family members both here and in PR. They all want nothing more than to see the island bright and bustling again. Through all of our contributions, I hope that can happen sooner than later.
I know this isn’t my typical TGIM giveaway post, but in the spirit of giving today I want to encourage you to donate to a cause near and dear to your heart. Trust me when I say that it will make you feel 10x better than winning some random, materialistic prize here on my blog. And if you’d like to donate to my Puerto Rico fundraising efforts, I’m going to extend my collection since I’m going to have to get back to Costco this week anyways! That said, I’ll be accepting money through Wednesday, September 27th. You can Venmo me (Michelle-Zavodny) or PayPal me (firstname.lastname@example.org). Even $3 is helpful as that’s a 40 bottle case of water at Costco! Whatever you can do, but no pressure. I’ll still love you either way.
Have you guys ever had an experience like this? Have you ever been pleasantly surprised by the generosity and support of others? Tell me in the comments! I want to hear all about it.
